There will be plenty of time dedicated to the practice of yoga, with early morning and evening asana practice, pranayama and meditation. Students will also be introduced to yoga philosophy and how this can offer a map for their yoga practice as they continue to study in more depth. In the evenings we will have time to relax and experience the most incredible food.

There will be time to relax and soak up the peaceful atmosphere within the mountains of Dunagiri. It’s very possible that studying amidst the deep spirituality of the area you might experience a shift in your practice in some way.  If you prefer taking time out to do your own thing, then you’re welcome to do as much or as little as you wish.

We will have an amazing train and jeep journey up to the Kumaon region of the Himalayan foothills, with a day and night beforehand in Delhi shopping, visiting markets and local sites – Indian cities are super busy but at the same time there is a sense of calm amongst the hustle and bustle. You’ll be nourished by, perhaps the most delicious food you’ve ever tasted – organic, vegetarian and home cooked by the wonderful Panderji. You will leave this retreat full of yoga wisdom and inspiration feeling ready to continue walking on your yoga path with a few crazy India stories to tell on your return – there always are!

The climate will be warm, (like a summers day in the UK) Autumn in India is a wonderful time to be at Dunagiri, the fields will be full of flowers, cosmos and marigolds. Daytime highs of 15- 25c. Night-time lows 2- 8c

The Retreat will be guided by Angela Sykes and Clare Kerrigan who both have vast experience of studying and travelling in India. Angela lived a yogic life in India for over a year and feels that this is the place her teaching and practice became more connected and authentic.

Angela;

‘When you practice yoga in India it seems that something clicks into place somehow, you begin to understand yoga on a deeper, more profound level. After my first trip to India studying yoga I noticed my approach to life and my practice began to change – I felt I could do anything after that trip and this is what inspired me to then live in India studying yoga for a year. It’s a very exciting environment to study yoga in. Once you’ve been you will want to go again and again.’

Yoga will be held twice daily in the morning outside with a view overlooking the breathtaking mountains and after sunset in the purpose built yoga pyramid at the retreat.

You will be guided on daily excursions by locals with visits to local villages, sacred sites, festivals and yogis living in caves, with whom you can chat about your yoga practice and theirs. You will return with an deeper understanding of yoga and it’s ancient roots.

You will be staying at the incredibly special Dunagiri retreat in the breathtaking region of Uttarakhand in the Himalayas. The accommodation is rustic, simple and beautiful, everything is handcrafted by locals using local resources – a truly sustainable retreat. The facilities are exceptional for such a remote location where in the local villages hot water and electricity are a luxury. You will come back glowing with health and vitality.

If you are still not convinced, here is some feedback from Alison who attended our last Himalayan Retreat in 2015;

‘Yoga Kula organised a really special itinerary in India that helped to deepen peoples practice and offered an insight into an ancient & brilliant culture. Angela & Clare’s choice of retreat is a testament to their natures – peaceful, radiant and joyful. They supported the group from enquiry to booking, to day to day yoga practice, to travelling in India and individual needs, with great care and attention to detail. Angela and Clare’s own experience of yoga and of India is something that made the trip feel effortless, safe and a huge amount of fun. An excellent adventure!’
